Nashville’s bustling building market is bringing an abundance of short-term labor into Middle Tennessee, but it’s also luring in people who want to put down more permanent roots.

One such individual is Scott Frey, a senior superintendent with Skanska USA. He is overseeing the tower portion of HCA’s Capital View project, and came to this area from Michigan.

“For a guy like me to come here, I had to see a lot going on,” says Frey, an Illinois native who began his construction career more than two decades ago as a carpenter.

“It’s a good, competitive market. I do believe it’s pretty saturated, but there’s still a lot of competition. We have to be very aware of when we are putting things out to bid, and constantly following up on that process.”

As a new resident, he says he finds the city exciting not solely because of all the building activity, but that does play a part.

“This is a good, central location, which means a lot for me,” Frey says.

“We’ve had an office here quite a while, but everybody here was working on other areas of the country.

“Now it’s a hub for us, and for me, it’s a city that I am glad I came to, and a good place to call home,” he adds.
