Bass, Berry & Sims welcomes 2 attorneys

Pinkston

Susan K. Bilbro and Shannon E. Pinkston have joined the Nashville office of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC.

Pinkston, a senior health care attorney, advises public and private health care companies in operations, regulatory and transactional matters. Previously, Pinkston served as vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary for Vanguard Health Systems, and as senior counsel for Tenet Healthcare following Tenet’s acquisition of Vanguard.

Pinkston earned a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School and a B.S. from the University of Tennessee.

Bilbro

Bilbro advises clients on all aspects of employee benefit plan design and administration and counsels clients on employee welfare and pension benefits issues, both in connection with corporate transactions and on day-to-day administration.

Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Bilbro practiced in the employee benefits groups at Waller in Nashville and at Morris, Manning & Martin in Atlanta. Bilbro earned a J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law and a B.A. from Transylvania University.

VU’s McDonald is first female TMA board chair

Michel McDonald, M.D., MBA, assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Dermatology, has taken office as chair of the board of trustees of the Tennessee Medical Association.

McDonald, who has been on the Vanderbilt faculty since 1997, is the first woman elected to serve in this capacity, according to the TMA.

The board of trustees is the body that directs and oversees the day-to-day work of the TMA and implements policies enacted by the TMA House of Delegates, which meets annually to debate and set policies.

LifePoint names Giovanetti Western Group president

LifePoint Health has selected Victor E. Giovanetti president of the company’s Western Group of hospitals. Previously, Giovanetti was chief operating officer of the company’s Eastern Group of facilities since July 2013.

The Western Group executive leadership team oversees the operations of 19 hospitals in 10 states. Giovanetti replaces Don Bivacca, who is resigning effective July 3.

Giovanetti has more than 25 years of management experience in operations, legal, financial, clinical and strategic aspects of health care administration. He joined LifePoint in 2013 from HCA Lewis-Gale Regional Health System in Roanoke, Virginia, where he was president. Previously, he was COO and CEO of Nashville’s Southern Hills Medical Center and in operations management for HCA’s Mid-America Division. Earlier in his career, Giovanetti served in various management roles with HCA, Symbion and other health care organizations in Georgia.

A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Giovanetti earned his MBA from University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, and his B.S. in business management from Berry College in Rome, Ga.

Thompson honored by Dental Association

William R. “Roy” Thompson, DDS, MAGD, of Murfreesboro, recently received the Jack Wells Memorial Dedication to Dentistry Award during the Tennessee Dental Association’s Music City Dental Conference.

Thompson “embodies the four criteria considered in determining the recipient of the award: (1) Quality of practice, (2) Service to organized dentistry, (3) Contribution to dental education and (4) Humanitarian service,” According to the TDA.

Thompson’s contributions to the community have been recognized by numerous organizations, including most recently by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), headquartered in Chicago, which presented the its prestigious Humanitarian Award to Dr. Thompson at the AGD 2014 Annual Meeting.

Key to both awards is Thompson’s dedication to Nashville’s Interfaith Dental Clinic, which delivers low-cost, comprehensive dental care to low-income and uninsured individuals in Middle Tennessee, and his establishment of the Interfaith Dental Clinic in Rutherford County, where he worked with community and dental leaders to find a location, purchase and renovate an existing building to bring the clinic to completion.

On its board since 2009, Thompson served as chairman of the clinic’s board of directors in 2014.

In 2013, the AGD presented Thompson with the Academy of General Dentistry Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition. In addition, he received the Rutherford County Impact Award in 2013, the Mary Catherine Strobel Innovator of the Year Award in 2013 and the Hands On Nashville Board Member of the Year Award in 2012.

Thompson has served as president of the Fourth District Dental Society, president of both the Tennessee AGD and the Tennessee Dental Association. On the national level, Thompson served the American Dental Association (ADA) as national consumer advisor and spokesperson, on the ADA’s Committee on the Young Professional, as delegate to the ADA House of Delegates, and most recently as chair of the ADA Council on Access, Prevention, and Interprofessional Relations.

He is a member of the AGD Annual Meetings Council and was chair of the 2013 Local Advisory Committee.

Thompson graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1978 and has practiced general dentistry in Murfreesboro since that time. He teaches for a local dental assisting program, and his office has been a site for the program’s clinical rotations for more than 16 years. He also is one of the primary legislative advocates for dentistry in Tennessee.

DSi promotes Moses to ‘culture warrior’

National electronic discovery and digital forensics firm DSi has named Justin Moses as the company’s first culture warrior. Moses has been with DSi for six years and previously served as a customer service representative.

The title of culture warrior harkens back to the days when the term “warrior” referred to someone who guarded the principles of an organization and protected the perimeter. As such, Moses will be tasked with the defense and growth of DSi’s culture.

One of his first acts as culture warrior will be to meet with employees one-on-one to discuss their individual needs as a way to integrate the general concept of company culture with the specific needs of employees.

BOHAN Advertising hires Jones, Simers

BOHAN Advertising has added Meghan Jones in account service and Katie Simers in business development.

Jones joins as retail account supervisor, working in the agency’s portfolio of retail industry clients. She has eight years of experience at three Chicago agencies and most recently was account supervisor at Arc Worldwide. Her brand experience includes Walgreens, Target, Crest, Pantene, Corona, Pacifico and Modelo. She holds an advertising degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Simers

Simers joins as new business project manager. She previously was a marketing and product development associate at American Accessories International, a manufacturer and marketer of custom incentive items for Fortune 500 companies. Her brand experience includes Altria, Avon International and Unilever.

She holds a marketing degree from the University of Alabama.

Trust Tree Legal adds director of finance

George Lifsey has been named director of finance and accounting for Trust Tree Legal, an online trademark services company.

Lifsey previously was an assurance manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, where he worked with public and privately held companies in the manufacturing, professional services, technology, health care and other industries. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and holds a master’s of accountancy from Belmont University’s Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business.
