Commercial real estate veteran Tom Frye, who spent the last 14 years as managing director of CBRE before retiring last year, has joined Baker Storey McDonald Properties, Inc.

Baker Storey McDonald focuses in retail and restaurants. Clients include Pier One, Old Navy, and Michaels, and grocery chain Sprouts. Frye’s focus will be uncovering development opportunities as well as urban retail; capitalizing on the ground floor spaces available in many of the new office and apartment buildings.

Frye moved to the Nashville area in 1988 to manage real estate finance activity for Third National Bank. When Third National became SunTrust, he became responsible for real estate lending for the states of Tennessee and Alabama.

Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, she was an assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bumpers earned a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School; a Certificate in Business and Public Policy from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business; and a B.S. from the University of North Carolina.

Kaitlin E. Harvie focuses her practice on corporate internal investigations and compliance matters, including health care fraud and abuse and federal procurement issues. In addition, she has significant experience with conducting anti-corruption investigations and compliance reviews under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Harvie earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from Vassar College.

Vincent B. Lillegard assists clients with various commercial transactions, including real estate acquisitions and dispositions; financing transactions, including mortgage, mezzanine and construction loans as well as senior credit facilities; and high-yield debt offerings. Lillegard earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.S. from Middle Tennessee State University.

J. Akele Parnell advises clients on a broad range of corporate matters including securities law issues, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Parnell earned a J.D. and an M.P.H. from Washington University in St. Louis and a B.A. from Auburn University.

J. Peter Ripley represents clients in a variety of commercial lending and real estate transactions, including negotiating facilities, and real estate acquisitions and dispositions. Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Ripley practiced as a finance and energy associate with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in Washington, D.C. Ripley earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Georgia.

Molly K. Ruberg represents clients in connection with internal investigations and related proceedings, and routinely counsels clients related to compliance and defense of False Claims Act violations. Ruberg received her J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law, an M.A. from American University, and a B.A. from the University of Kentucky.

Vanderbilt hires new radiation oncology chair

Lisa Kachnic, M.D., professor and chair of Radiation Oncology and associate director of Multidisciplinary Cancer Research at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), and chief of Radiation Oncology at Boston Medical Center (BMC), has been named the new professor and chair of the Vanderbilt Department of Radiation Oncology.

As the new chair, Kachnic will be responsible for overseeing a department known for delivering world-class oncology services at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC), scientific discovery and educating leaders, along with its thriving residency program that trains academic clinicians and physician scientists as well as the nation’s first accredited medical physics professional doctorate program.

Lifepoint Health names cardiovascular director

LifePoint Health has named John Young, M.D., its national medical director of cardiovascular services. He will oversee ongoing efforts to improve quality, patient safety and clinical functions related to cardiovascular services at LifePoint locations across the nation.

Kent

In the newly created position of national medical director of cardiovascular services, Young will be responsible for implementing best practices and driving clinical and operational improvement at hospitals and clinics across the LifePoint system. Young also will serve as chairperson of the LifePoint Cardiovascular Physician Council, which provides guidance on matters related to policies, guidelines, evidence-based standards, compliance and operational excellence in cardiovascular services.

Prior to joining LifePoint, Young was the division chair for cardiovascular medicine at Adena Health System in Chillicothe, Ohio.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he also pursued graduate studies in biochemistry and physiology.

He obtained his M.D. from The Ohio State University.

Peek named editor of gastroenterology journal

Jones

Richard Peek, M.D., director of the Vanderbilt Digestive Disease Research Center, has been appointed to a five-year term as editor-in-chief of Gastroenterology, the flagship journal of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and premier journal in gastrointestinal and liver diseases. His term begins in July 2016.

Peek, professor of Medicine and Cancer Biology, is the Mina Cobb Wallace Professor of Immunology and directs the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the Department of Medicine. He is internationally known for his studies of the stomach-infecting bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its contribution to the pathogenesis of gastric cancer.

American Blue Ribbon selects Kent its CIO

American Blue Ribbon Holdings, one of the country’s largest full service restaurant holding companies, has hired of information technology industry veteran Jeffery Kent as chief information officer.

Kent will relocate to Nashville to lead the strategic IT efforts of ABRH and its six distinct brands, which include O’Charley’s, Ninety Nine Restaurants, Max & Erma’s, Village Inn, Bakers Square and Legendary Baking.

Kent joins ABRH from Yankee Candle Company, based in South Deerfield, Mass. As vice president of information technology, he was charged with leading a 70-person IT department and spearheading major system enhancements including recent Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation.

Prior to his time at Yankee Candle, Kent was chief information officer for Carrols Corporation and Fiesta Restaurant Group, which is based in Dallas, Texas.

Jones appointed to TPAC board of directors

Nola Jones has been appointed to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center 2014-15 Board of Directors, replacing the seat left vacant by Kathleen Airhart.

Jones is the coordinator of visual and performing arts for Metro Nashville Public Schools, where she provides instructional supervision of 400 professional arts education specialists, curriculum planning and implementation of “Music Makes Us,” the public/private partnership between MNPS, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, and music industry and community leaders.

Jones was appointed to the board by Tennessee Commissioner of Education Dr. Candice McQueen who, according to the organization’s bylaws, may serve on the board or appoint a designee.
