NASHVILLE (AP) — Nashville's new riverfront amphitheater will open July 30 with a headline show by seven-time Grammy nominee Eric Church, ushering in an inaugural outdoor concert season featuring big names from past and present.

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and Live Nation announced Thursday that Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire would play opening weekend on Aug. 1 at the newly named Ascend Amphitheater. The acts lined up to play the amphitheater's inaugural concert season include: singer Jill Scott, Phish, the Counting Crows, Widespread Panic, The Smashing Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson, Steely Dan and Elvis Costello, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, the Old Crow Medicine Show, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and ZZ Top.

Tickets to the shows go on sale starting April 30.

The new state-of-the-art amphitheater, located inside downtown's Riverfront Park, will hold 6,800 people. Officials hope that it will be Music City's premiere outdoor destination for live music.

The amphitheater will also be the new outdoor home of the Nashville Symphony.
