Memphis leads Tennessee metro areas in 2013 patents

MEMPHIS (AP) — Officials say Greater Memphis led Tennessee's metro areas in patents issued in 2013.

According to The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1FgXxTn), the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reported that enterprises and individuals in the Memphis metropolitan area were awarded 311 patents in 2013.

The patent office reports 239 patents were awarded in Nashville in 2013, while 222 were awarded in Knoxville in the same year.

In Chattanooga, 47 patents were awarded in 2013.
