Dell laying off 96 customer support workers in Nashville
NASHVILLE (AP) — Nearly 100 workers will be laid off in the shutdown of a Dell Inc. customer support unit in Nashville.
The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1EDq2dv) says the unit serves clients that have global operations. Dell spokesman David Frink said the work is being transferred to employees elsewhere.
Frink said the layoffs don't affect company employees at the Nashville facility who provide support for customers across North America.
The Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker said in a notice to the state the 96 layoffs would be effective next Wednesday.
Frink said the company offers a competitive severance package.
The company's Nashville campus employs 1,400 people overall.
