Tennessee Literacy Coalition closing in June

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — The director of the Tennessee Literacy Coalition says the nonprofit organization that has promoted reading education for over three decades will close this year.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1G0uwQY) reports Suzanne Horne said in a letter that the coalition has canceled a statewide adult literacy conference that was scheduled next month and it will cease operations in June. She cited budget problems as the reason.

Over the years, the coalition has worked to track literacy data, organize professional development sessions and increase the number of literacy volunteers. Horne encouraged current volunteers in adult literacy programs to stay active.
