Haslam: All Dems will be needed to pass Tennessee Medicaid deal
NASHVILLE (AP) - Republican Gov. Bill Haslam says long-awaited details on his Medicaid expansion proposal should be released "within 24 hours" and that he expects to need the votes of all Democrats in the GOP-controlled Legislature to give the deal a chance of passage.
Haslam told reporters after a groundbreaking ceremony for Bridgestone's new Nashville headquarters on Wednesday that he is well aware of grumbling among many lawmakers that they haven't been given more details about the Medicaid proposal since it was first announced last month.
But the governor says his administration has been finalizing the language of the proposed amendment to the state's current TennCare waiver following an oral agreement with federal officials.
House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh says Democrats are "favorably postured" but also await more details.
