Attorney General Slatery names solicitor general
Blumstein
Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery has announced that Andrée Sophia Blumstein will join the office as solicitor general. Blumstein will oversee appellate litigation in state and federal courts, review written opinions, and advise the attorney general.
For the past 21 years, Blumstein has been a partner at the Nashville firm of Sherrard & Roe, PLC, where she concentrated on appellate litigation, health law, taxation and antitrust.
Blumstein graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where she was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif and was research editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. She also holds a Ph.D. in Germanic languages and literature from Yale University. She earned her undergraduate degree magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Vassar College.
Blumstein succeeds Acting Solicitor General Joe Whalen, who will continue with the solicitor general’s office.
TriStar Horizon CEO announces retirement
TriStar Horizon Medical Center’s CEO for more than a decade, John Marshall, PhD, FACHE, will retire at the end of the year from TriStar Health, a Division of HCA. Marshall, who has been TriStar Horizon’s CEO since December 2002, has more than 42 years of service in the health care industry.
Steve Corbeil, president and CEO for TriStar Health, says a search is underway to find the right person to step in and lead TriStar Horizon Medical Center to continue the great work that Marshall and other leaders at the hospital have started.
Marshall and his wife, Beth, have been actively involved in the community since moving to Dickson in 2002. He is a former board chairman for the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce, and he has served on the Dickson County Community Clinic Board of Directors, Board for Licensing Health Care Facilities (State of Tennessee), and the THA Quality Committee just to name a few. Beth has served on the Clement Railroad Museum board, and she is currently a High Noon Rotary Club member and serves on the local YMCA board.
Dickinson Wright hires two associate attorneys
Dickinson Wright has hired two as associate attorneys for its Nashville office.
Burgener
Joshua Burgener joins the firm after working as an associate attorney for the Wiseman Ashworth Law Group in Nashville. He graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2010.
Lewis
Michael Lewis comes to Dickinson Wright after previously working with the firm as a summer associate. Lewis is also a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as an intelligence officer. He served as a judicial intern for Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Williams C. Koch, Jr.
Knight
Lewis graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2014.
Also, Dickinson Wright member attorney Adam Knight was named to the 2014 “Attorneys for Justice Pro Bono Honor Roll.”
With a goal to increase statewide pro bono work to 50 percent participation, the Tennessee Supreme Court launched “Attorneys for Justice” to recognize the volunteer work of Tennessee attorneys. Those included in the program met a minimum of 50 pro bono hours annually.
Knight had more than 100 hours of pro bono service work in 2014, providing counsel for both criminal and civil cases. Knight is also a part of the Tennessee Bar Association Pro Bono Program.
At Dickinson Wright, Knight focuses his practice on construction counseling and litigation, commercial and business litigation, land use litigation and product liability and personal injury.
Moses leads Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division
Moses
Rachel Moses, an attorney with the Cookeville office of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, has assumed the presidency of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division following the sitting president’s decision to move out of state. Moses, who was serving as president-elect, will serve for two years, completing this year’s term and then serving her own term as president in 2015-2016.
Moses is a 1999 graduate of Centre College of Kentucky and a 2002 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, joining Legal Aid Society upon graduation from law school. She was elected to the TBA YLD Board as the District 6 Representative in 2004 and served as a district representative until she was elected vice president in 2013.
As a TBA YLD district representative, Moses implemented the projects of the TBA YLD in the Upper Cumberland area, including the Wills for Heroes pro bono project that provides free wills to emergency first responders.
StyleBlueprint hires managing editor
StyleBlueprint, an online lifestyle publication, has hired Ashley Haugen as its managing editor. Haugen was most recently with PGOA Media, where she managed online content for American Profile, Daily Parent, Spry, Smarty Cents and Relish.
Haugen joins the team following a year of expansion for StyleBlueprint, which now has presences in Atlanta, Louisville, Memphis and Birmingham, in addition to its Southern edition. Most recently, StyleBlueprint launched its Williamson County edition under Tennessean alumna Cathi Aycock’s leadership.
20|20 Research names Pflum vice president
Pflum
20|20 Research, a global research technology and service firm, has named John Pflum as vice president of accounting and finance.
Pflum comes from the University of Cincinnati, where he was director of business affairs and human resources leader for the university’s College of Nursing. He will oversee all of 20|20’s financial operations, including financial planning, reporting and accounting.
Prior to his stint at the University of Cincinnati, Pflum was finance director for Ipsos Understanding Unlimited, a global research firm. He has an MBA and a degree in business administration from Xavier University.
