NASHVILLE (AP) — A Nashville judge has been publicly reprimanded for helping a domestic violence suspect get out of jail early at the behest of a friend who was also the suspect's attorney.

The state Board of Judicial Conduct issued the reprimand of Judge Casey Moreland on Thursday.

According to the reprimand, David Chase was given a 12-hour hold, as required by state law, after he was charged with domestic violence on June 8.

Then Chase's attorney, who is Moreland's friend, called the judge. He told Moreland that Chase should not be held because there was no domestic relationship between Chase and the victim. That information turned out to be false.

However, Moreland arranged to have Chase released. Chase returned home and is alleged to have assaulted the victim again.
