Nashville business joining others that help women

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Nashville nonprofit that helps former sex workers learn job skills has launched a venture with likeminded businesses on five continents.

WPLN-FM (http://bit.ly/1saGsGR) reports the Shared Trade online marketplace helps women escape poverty by giving them a larger portion of the profits from the products they produce than a typical retailer would.

Through the partnership, Nashville's Thistle Farms will be the vendor and distribution hub for Shared Trade products in the U.S. Those products include jewelry from India, fabric from Mozambique and silk scarves from Cambodia. Thistle Farms' bath and beauty products also are available.

Currently, sales are primarily through the website SharedTrade.org.
