NASHVILLE (AP) - Tennessee's attorney general has released an opinion on the legal mechanism for filling the District 30 seat held by Democratic state Sen. Jim Kyle.

Kyle will resign Aug. 29 to be sworn in to the Shelby County Chancery Court bench. He was first elected to the Senate in 1983.

Attorney General Bob Cooper said in the opinion released earlier this week that an election to replace Kyle will be added to the November ballot. The Shelby County Democratic Party will be responsible for nominating his replacement.

Democrats interested in the seat include the incumbent's wife, Sara Kyle; former Sen. Beverly Marrero; and state Reps. G. A. Hardaway and Antonio Parkinson.
