Frey joins Frost Brown Todd’s Nashville office

Frost Brown Todd has named Kelly Frey as a new member of its growing Nashville office.

Frey is one of less than 10 practicing attorneys selected as a Fellow of the World Technology Network – an association of more than 1,000 international scientists, entrepreneurs, financiers, academics and other professionals.

He is also the author of the legal practice guide “Frey on Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions” and serves as general counsel to the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association.

Frey focuses his practice on information technology and intellectual property transactions, including licensing, outsourcing, technology law, and vendor relationship/management. He also assists with corporate governance matters and helps companies create sustainable, cost effective and defensible internal controls to mitigate compliance risks.

KraftCPAs admits Fox to firm membership

Nashville-based KraftCPAs PLLC has announced that Ramona E. Fox, CPA, will become a member (owner) in the firm effective Aug. 1.

Fox, who was most recently a member in Fox, Kolb & Associates, PLLC, has more than 20 years of accounting experience. Prior to co-founding Fox, Kolb & Associates in 2007, she practiced with Crowe Horwath and Kruse & Associates.

Fox is a graduate of David Lipscomb University, a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Middle Tennessee, Associated Builders and Contractors and the Construction Financial Management Association. She currently serves as a financial advisor to AGC Comptrust.

LifePoint appoints 5 vice presidents

LifePoint Hospitals has promoted five of its senior directors to vice president: Mike Caplenor (IT&S service delivery and administration, John Faust (financial and ancillary systems), Ed Richards (technology services), Ron Evans (clinical systems) and Sean Van Kerkhove (physician services).

Prior to joining LifePoint in 2005, Caplenor held advisory and technology development roles with Deloitte & Touche and, prior to that, Hospital Corporation of America. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Middle Tennessee State University.

Faust joined LifePoint in 2010 and has 25 years in the health care IT industry, including information systems leadership roles at Community Health Systems and MedHost. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Mississippi.

Richards has more than 15 years in health care, including leadership roles with Ingenuity Associates and HCA, as well as the Department of Homeland Security. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Tulane University.

Evans has worked for LifePoint since 2010 and has 31 years of experience in health care IT with Iasis Healthcare, HBOC/McKesson Corporation, InfoPartners, Inc. and Baptist Health System of East Tennessee. He served as founder and principal of Results Management Consulting, LLC. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee.

Prior to joining LifePoint, Van Kerkhove served in hospital operations and physician practice leadership roles with HCA, Triad Hospitals and Community Health Systems. He attended Louisiana State University and holds an associate of applied science from California College of Health Sciences, a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University.

Tristar Summit adds new physician

M. Leon Seard, II, M.D., a board certified urologist, has joined TriStar Summit Medical Center.

Seard earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. He then completed his general surgery residency at Wright State University Affiliated Hospitals in Dayton, OH and his urology residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

Veteran visual journalist leads MTSU media center

A longtime visual journalist who expanded her focus to train others to use mobile media will lead MTSU’s nationally recognized Center for Innovation in Media, university officials have announced.

Val Hoeppner, who’s served since last fall as journalist in residence in the School of Journalism in MTSU’s College of Mass Communication, has taken the reins at the student-focused center, which houses all student media plus the university’s National Public Radio station, WMOT 89.5 FM.

Before joining the MTSU staff, Hoeppner served as director of education for the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute for five years and spent 20 years in newsrooms as a photojournalist, newsroom leader and multimedia director at The Indianapolis Star.

Election Commission promotes IT manager

The Davidson County Election Commission has promoted Jeremy Greene to IT Manager.

Greene is an eight-year veteran of the Davidson County Election Commission with electronic poll book and voting machine experience. He is responsible for all database management, electronic poll books and department computers. Additionally, he oversees all state-related and data consistency reports.

VUMC’s Ehrenfeld elected to AMA Board of Trustees

Vanderbilt’s Jesse Ehrenfeld, M.D., MPH, associate professor of Anesthesiology, Surgery and Biomedical Informatics, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA).

Ehrenfeld will serve as the Board of Trustees young physician representative. He is the speaker of the Massachusetts Medical Society, a member of the AMA Young Physicians Section Governing Council, and previously was a on the AMA Resident and Fellow Section governing council.

He graduated from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine and has a master’s Harvard’s School of Public Health.
