NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are closing with tiny gains after a late-afternoon turn higher, but still ended the week with a loss.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down for most of the day before a last-minute advance pushed it barely above its previous day's close.

The Dow ended up five points, just 0.03 percent, at 16,851 on Friday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up three points, or 0.2 percent, at 1,960. The Nasdaq composite rose 18 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,397.

The Dow and S&P 500 ended the week slightly lower. The Nasdaq gained.

Nike rose 1 percent after reporting earnings that beat analysts' expectations. DuPont sank 4 percent after cutting its profit forecast.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note held steady at 2.53 percent.
