Ex-lawmaker named to Tennessee Election Commission

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — Former state Rep. Donna Rowland Barrett has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Tennessee State Election Commission.

The Murfreesboro Republican served in the state House for 10 years before retiring from the General Assembly in 2010, the same year she married Ronnie Barrett, founder of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing in Murfreesboro.

She now runs the Barrett Group, which specializes in cost control strategies.

Barrett fills the vacancy created by fellow former Republican state Rep. Tom DuBois of Columbia, who is running for circuit judge.

The State Election Commission oversees local election commissions. Under Tennessee law, the majority of the state panel and all 95 county election commissions must mirror the partisan control of the General Assembly, where Republicans hold the majority.
