Baker Donelson has elected 13 new shareholders across the firm, including two attorneys in its Nashville office, Joel R. Buckberg and Ashby Q. Burks.

Buckberg heads the franchise and hospitality group at Baker Donelson. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, he was executive vice president and deputy general counsel of Cendant Corporation.

He is a graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Law and the Owen Graduate School of Management.

Burks is a member of Baker Donelson’s health law and business practice groups. He previously was vice president, secretary and general counsel of Quorum Health Group Inc. and also served as vice president and assistant general counsel at Hospital Corporation of America.

He is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Law.

Waller adds partners in health care practice

Waller, one of the nation’s largest health care law firms, has hired health care attorneys Michelle B. Marsh and Angela C. Youngberg as partners to be based in Nashville.

Marsh advises hospitals, health systems and outpatient services providers on a wide range of regulatory issues, including Stark and anti-kickback compliance, licensing and accreditation, HIPAA and patient privacy issues, and reimbursement matters.

Marsh’s experience includes serving as vice president/associate general counsel for LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., and most recently she was chief compliance officer and regulatory counsel for SpecialtyCare.

Marsh practiced at Waller earlier in her career. She is a Vanderbilt graduate and earned her J.D. from William & Mary Law School.

Youngberg

Youngberg represents clients from virtually every segment of the health care industry, including hospitals, physicians, long-term care providers, surgery centers, and medical device companies.

She is the immediate past chair of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Health Law Section. She earned her J.D. in 1995 from the University of Memphis – Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. She earned her B.A. in 1992 from the University of Memphis. She previously was a partner at Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell, PLC in Jackson.

Stites & Harbison attorney is Nashville Bar Fellow

Intellectual property attorney Jennifer Kovalcik of Stites & Harbison, PLLC has been named a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation.

Kovalcik practices in Stites & Harbison’s Intellectual Property and Technology Service Group. She primarily concentrates on trademarks and technology, including software and technology agreements, global trademark protection plans, and trademark registrations, clearance searches, and enforcement, in addition to handling domain name and Internet content disputes.

She is the outgoing chair of the Nashville Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Committee.

The Nashville Bar Foundation Fellows Program was established in 1991 as a way for the bar to honor its colleagues who have contributed significantly to the community.

Stoney River picks chef as culinary director

Nicholas P. Tzompanakis, 39, a career chef with more than 18 years of experience in upscale restaurant dining, has been elevated to director of culinary operations & executive chef for Stoney River Legendary Steak restaurants.

Tzompanakis was named executive chef at the Stoney River’s West End location in September. Prior to joining Stoney River, he served in several culinary posts with Hillstone Restaurant Group and J. Alexander’s, the latter of which he was most recently executive chef at the Franklin location. He also owned and operated a high-end delicatessen on Long Island, N.Y., before joining J. Alexander’s in 2008.

TIRRC names Harris, Teatro interim directors

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition has named Lindsey Harris and Stephanie Teatro interim co-directors.

Harris

Teatro, previously the organization’s advocacy director, joined the TIRRC staff in 2012 from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She previously spent two years in northeast Thailand as part of an educational program supporting regional civil rights movements.

Harris, previously the organization’s operations director, has held multiple positions with TIRRC since her internship through the Center for Community Change in 2008. A Nashville native, Harris is fluent in Spanish and has studied and traveled extensively in Central and South America.

Founded in 2003, TIRRC is a statewide, immigrant and refugee-led collaboration whose mission is to empower immigrants and refugees throughout Tennessee to develop a unified voice, defend their own rights, and create an atmosphere in which they are recognized as positive contributors to the state.

ReviveHealth adds 4, promotes 2 locally

ReviveHealth added four new team members and promoted two more. Joining ReviveHealth are:

Ashley Merchant, account supervisor, Chance Strickland, account executive, Lauren Cerra, account executive, and Andrew Worthing, assistant account executive. Promoted are Lana Taussig, from account supervisor to senior account supervisor, and Bethany Doty, from assistant account executive to account executive.

Merchant brings more than eight years of experience in managing public relations campaigns for a variety of consumer, health, business, and nonprofit organizations, and was most recently with Memphis-based Inferno.

Strickland was most recently with GCI Health in Atlanta. He has a background in graphic design, digital and social media in the health IT, biotech, pharmaceutical and non-profits.

Cerra has a background in corporate communications in retail, health care, professional services, nonprofit and government. She most recently an account coordinator for MWW Group in East Rutherford, N.J.

Worthing joins ReviveHealth as a recent graduate of the University of Northwestern in Saint Paul, Minn.

McNeely Pigott & Fox promotes account execs

McNeely Pigott & Fox Public Relations has promoted Stacy Alcala, Matt Griffin, Leigh Lindsey, Colby Sledge, Eric Tieles and Lauren Ward to senior account executives. All were previously account executives.

Alcala, a native of Franklin and a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, joined McNeely Pigott & Fox in 2007.

Griffin, a native of Munford, graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications with an emphasis in broadcasting and electronic media.

Lindsey is a Columbia native and graduate of Lipscomb University.

Sledge, a Nolensville native, holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University. Before joining MP&F in 2012, Sledge was the press secretary for the Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus and began his career as a staff writer for The Tennessean.

Tieles, a native of Atlanta, joined MP&F in 2009 after graduating from Auburn University.

Ward, of Murfreesboro, joined MP&F in 2008.

DVL hires Mason as production manager

DVL Public Relations & Advertising has hired Betty Wayland Mason as production manager.

Mason joins DVL with more than 30 years of experience in print production and management. She is responsible for managing all aspects of production to ensure the agency achieves the highest levels of efficiency and value for its clients.

Mason is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where she earned a B.S. in Advertising.

Skanska has announced three staff changes aligned with its continued growth in Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region.

Danny Lehman has joined the company as a superintendent, Amy Baker has joined as a business analyst manager for the company’s Healthcare Center of Excellence, while Adam Quertermous has been promoted to senior environment, health and safety manager.

Skanska’s current projects in Nashville include West Riverfront Park, Abe’s Garden at Park Manor, the Williamson Medical Center expansion and renovation, and Meharry Medical College’s new residential complex.

Lehman is overseeing field operations for the $51 million Williamson Medical Center expansion and renovation. He has 18 years of industry experience and has been involved with many construction projects in Nashville, including the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Critical Care Tower and the Centennial Medical Center Cardiology expansion.

In Baker’s new role, she will be responsible for deriving metrics from Skanska’s health care construction projects that can be used to assist clients with new facility needs and the company with new business opportunities.
