Public transit ridership mostly down in Tennessee

Despite growing national figures, most Tennesseans aren't using public transit as much as they did last year, according to new ridership numbers.

What follows is a look at ridership reported by transit agencies in Tennessee.

Urban area; Agency; Change in unlinked passenger trips 2012 to 2013; Percent of increase or decrease

Chattanooga; Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority; 170,600 decrease; 5.2 percent

Clarksville; Clarksville Transit System; 85,600 decrease; 9.5 percent

Memphis; Memphis Area Transit Authority; 82,300 decrease; 0.8 percent

Nashville; Metropolitan Transit Authority; 166,100 increase; 1.7 percent

Nashville; Regional Transportation Authority; 41,600 decrease; 5.3 percent
