Bob Higgins, president and CEO of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon, Inc., has been named 2014 Engineer of the Year by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

Higgins joins four engineers from Barge Waggoner who have received the Chapter’s Engineer of the Year award – Harold Fulgham, Jack Wood and founders Dan Barge Jr. and Billy Sumner.

Since becoming president and CEO in 2009, Higgins has led Barge Waggoner through a successful re-organization into core business units and has directed the development and implementation of key technical, project management, and leadership programs. He also has collaborated with Lipscomb University to create the Barge Leadership Institute, a customized training program for current and future leaders of the firm.

Higgins is active in professional and technical organizations and sits on the board for the American Council of Engineering Companies, Nashville Chapter, as well Vanderbilt University’s Engineering Alumni Council. He is a member of the National and Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Bob Banyai has rejoined the firm as senior mechanical designer in its Industrial and Building Services business unit.

Banyai has 25 years of mechanical design experience in the industrial, commercial, health care, and governmental business sectors. He earned a degree in industrial technology and science from California University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Barge Waggoner, Banyai was employed with Gresham Smith and Partners with responsibilities that included design development, construction coordination, cost estimation and specification development. He previously was employed by Barge Waggoner in the late 1990s.

Hands On Nashville announces new board

Hands On Nashville’s has announced new board officers and members for 2014, with Meredith Sullivan Benton as the new board president.

Benton, the regional director for external affairs for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, re-joined the board in 2013 after previously serving from 2006 to 2009.

Barron’s taps Pagliara as state’s top wealth manager

Middle Tennessee-based wealth manager Tim Pagliara, chairman and CEO, CapWealth Advisors, has been named the top financial advisor in the state of Tennessee by Barron’s magazine.

The announcement marks the fifth year in the last six (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014) the Middle Tennessee wealth manager has been selected for the national “Top 1,200 Advisors” list, published annually by the financial industry magazine.

To make the list, advisors must have a significant amount of assets under advisement in their home state, generate substantial revenue for their firms, run provably high-quality practices, have stellar regulatory records and participate in philanthropic work.

A veteran of the securities industry, Pagliara began his finance career in 1981 as a Limited Partner with Edward Jones, opening the firm’s first branch in Franklin. In 1989, he joined Hilliard Lyons and established a second operation for the company in Franklin. He formed Capital Trust Wealth Management in Franklin in early 2000, which now operates as CapWealth Advisors and CapWealth Investment Services.

Pagliara earned a J.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Law (1983) and is a graduate of the Wharton School Securities Industry Institute at the University of Pennsylvania (1993).

Goodrich named director of legal organization

Stites & Harbison, PLLC attorney Robert C. Goodrich Jr. has been appointed to a four-year term as a director of the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute.

Goodrich is a member with Stites & Harbison and a member of the firm’s Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy Service Group. He represents creditors, creditors’ committees, landlords, and other interested parties in bankruptcy and insolvency related matters in state and federal courts.

For more than 30 years, the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute has been hosting annual continuing legal education seminars on commercial and bankruptcy law in Nashville. The MSCLI Board of Directors consists of attorneys throughout Tennessee.

Girls on the Run names 2014 board

Girls on the Run Nashville has named its 24-member board of directors for 2014.

The organization runs 12-week afterschool programs each semester that use the power of running to teach third- through eighth-grade girls how to form positive relationships and live happy, healthy and active lives. The organization has been in Nashville since 2007.

E|SPACES appoints Pirtle its chief executive officer

Nashville-based professional office and meeting space company E|SPACES has named Jon Pirtle as the company’s new CEO. Pirtle joins the company after serving as vice president of sales at Grand Avenue Transportation.

BOHAN names Paschall to leadership role

BOHAN Advertising has promoted Rich Paschall to senior vice president, director of creative strategies, a new planning role for the full-service agency. Paschall joined BOHAN in 2013 as executive creative director.

Before joining BOHAN, Paschall was the executive creative director for Lawler Ballard Van Durand in Birmingham, where he provided the creative vision for clients such as TIAA-CREF, Alabama Power and Smithfield Foods.

Paschall has been one of the Southeast’s most awarded and sought-after ad creatives, with stops at Atlanta creative powerhouses such as Babbit & Reiman, Tausche Martin Lonsdorf, Earle Palmer Brown and former Advertising Age “Agency of the Year” Henderson Advertising. Richards & Richards hires litigation support specialist

Richards & Richards, a local office records management company, has hired Laura Hale as a litigation support specialist in its Litigation Support Division.

In her role as a litigation support specialist, Hale will assist in the continuing development of Richards & Richards’ Litigation Services division by helping clients prepare for trials, providing litigation support consultations and building out the company’s e-discovery services.

Hale graduated from the University of Tennessee and earned her paralegal certificate from the American Institute of Paralegal Studies. In 2012, she earned her E-Discovery Specialist Certification (CEDS).

DVL announces 3 staff promotions

DVL Public Relations & Advertising has promoted Sean Williams, Brittney Hite and Catherina Davidson.

Williams, who joined DVL in 2010, has been promoted from assistant art director to art director/concept specialist.

In his new role, Williams develops visual and conceptual messages to fit the client’s brand essence.

Hite, who has been with DVL since 2011, is transitioning from creative assistant to traffic manager. She coordinates scheduling and processing the agency’s creative jobs from inception to completion.

Davidson has been promoted from account service associate to assistant account executive. Davidson assists multiple account teams in media relations, social media and strategic communications initiatives.

William H. Braddy III, CFP, has joined Nashville-based Kraft Asset Management, LLC as a senior manager/wealth advisor.

Braddy was most recently a senior vice president and private client advisor with U.S. Trust/Bank of America in Nashville, where he oversaw all private banking activities in Tennessee. He is responsible for wealth management strategies for clients and their families.
