Cheekwood has announced that one of the most popular pieces from the recently closed “LIGHT” exhibit will remain on display in the Cheekwood Mansion for the next three years.

British artist Bruce Munro’s fiber optic Bell Chandelier was created specifically for the Cheekwood Mansion’s Rotunda as a part of “LIGHT.” The piece features two miles of fiber optic cable cascading from the top of the domed hall, each strand with a miniature brass bell shade at its end.

The effect is dramatic and stunning in the space, spanning the majority of the hall’s height to hang just seven feet from the ground floor level.

“Cheekwood is thrilled that one of the public’s favorite LIGHT installations will remain on view for an extended period of time,” says Jane O. MacLeod, president and CEO.

“The juxtaposition of this contemporary artwork in the historic Mansion pays homage to our heritage and celebrates the ‘new’ Cheekwood of today. We’re incredibly grateful to Bruce Munro and the Slaughters for making this loan possible.”

Bruce Munro’s LIGHT installation transformed the botanical garden and art museum from May to November and was viewed by more than180,000 visitors.
