Veteran tax attorneys Steven K. Wood and Julie A. Boswell are joining Baker Donelson’s Nashville office as members of the firm’s tax department.

The addition of Wood and Boswell gives Baker Donelson the largest tax law group in Tennessee. Both come from the Brentwood firm of Thrailkill, Harris, Wood & Boswell, whose other named partners will retire from the practice of law at year’s end.

Wood, who joins as shareholder, focuses his practice on federal and state income taxation, estate planning and administration, business law (corporate, partnership and limited liability company), and tax-exempt organizations.

He previously served as chairman of the Tax Committee and the Estate Planning Committee of the Nashville Bar Association.

Boswell, who joins as of counsel, focuses her practice in the areas of federal taxation, estate planning and administration, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters.

Banking magazine honors Pinnacle Financial’s Kidd

Bank Investment Consultant magazine has named Pinnacle Financial Partners associate Brock Kidd one of its “Top 50 Bank Reps” for the fifth year. He was also named to the list in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Ranked at No. 30, Kidd is the only Nashville advisor to appear on the 2013 list.

The magazine evaluates candidates on six variables, including assets under management, production, asset growth, percentage of fee business, growth in production and production-per-assets. Re-qualification is required annually.

With more than 19 years of financial and investment experience, Kidd is a senior vice president and financial consultant at Pinnacle Asset Management and a financial advisor for Raymond James.

Nashville Emerging Leaders announces 2014 class

Nashville Emerging Leaders, an annual leadership training program that brings together Middle Tennessee’s most promising young professionals with the region’s top community and business leaders, has announced its class for 2014.

Thirty Middle Tennessee young professionals representing an array of industries and backgrounds have been selected to participate in the 11-week program that begins in February. Each week, NEL participants hear from established local community and civic leaders and discuss critical issues facing our city. The sessions are led and moderated by Nashville-based Strategy and Leadership, LLC.

2 new hires, promotion at Nashville Chamber

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Laura Moore and Whitney Weeks to help lead the organization’s policy and advocacy work.

Moore will serve as vice president of policy and will be responsible for the Chamber’s Vital Signs project, an annual report of key community indicators for the Nashville region.

She joins the Chamber from the Statewide Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), where she has most recently served as director of innovation.

Also serving as vice president of policy, Weeks will oversee the Chamber’s annual Education Report Card process, in addition to her support of the Chamber’s advocacy efforts.

She has served as executive director of the Vanderbilt Center for Nashville Studies since 2010, where she partnered with key stakeholders within the Vanderbilt community to identify areas where the university can work with the city of Nashville around the Center’s strategic priorities.

Additionally, Stephanie Coleman, who has served as vice president of policy for the last two years, will take on the newly created position of vice president of member value and strategic alliances. Her new role will focus primarily on increasing the Chamber’s overall member value, as well as the identification and implementation of strategic alliance opportunities. Coleman will lead the Chamber’s sponsorship, programs and events functions.

Tarr joins Lattimore Black Morgan and Cain

Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC has added Katie Tarr in its Brentwood office.

Tarr has joined the accounting firm as a senior analyst in Litigation, Valuation, Mergers and Acquisitions. Tarr has four years’ experience in health care finance and expertise in physician contracting and compensation. Prior to LBMC, Tarr was a manager of physician contracting at OhioHealth in Columbus, Ohio.

U.S. Bank Home Mortgage adds loan originator

Tony K. Grubbs has joined U.S. Bank as a mortgage loan originator at the bank’s Belle Meade branch.

Grubbs has been originating home loans for more than 20 years in Tennessee and Missouri. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University.

Crosslin & Associates expands various teams

Crosslin & Associates has expanded its audit, entrepreneurial business services and tax teams.

In the tax department, Kristopher D. Miller, CPA, has joined as a senior manager. Kyle Meek has joined the entrepreneurial business services team as an advanced staff. In the audit department, Robert Johnson, CPA, and Dakota Grady have joined as audit staff team members.

Miller brings more than 15 years of experience, most recently having worked as a tax manager at a local accounting firm. He also previously served as a client service supervisor for Paychex, Inc. He graduated from Lipscomb University with a bachelor’s degree in professional accountancy.

Meek most recently served as a senior, staff and tax accountant at area accounting firms. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University.

Johnson most recently worked as a senior accountant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He also previously served as an experienced staff accountant for the University of Rochester.

Grady most recently served on the accounting solutions staff for HoganTaylor, LLP, Certified Public Accountants in Oklahoma City, Okla. He also previously worked as a staff accountant for TLC Accounting and Tax and an external auditor for Resurgent Capital Services, both in Greenville, South Carolina.

McDuffey joins Tristar Summit Medical Center

TriStar Summit Medical Center is pleased to welcome Daymond McDuffey, M.D., a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician to its medical staff. McDuffey will serve as the medical director of TriStar Summit’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Center.

He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College, his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Louisville and his primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky.

Southeast Venture hires veteran broker

Jeremy Coward has joined Southeast Venture as a broker, company principals announced today.

A native Coloradoan, Coward acquired his Colorado real estate license in 1999 before moving to Nashville in 2011 and securing his Tennessee license. He has been actively involved in leasing retail properties and the successful completion of more than 400 transactions.

Kimberly G. Schmittel has joined Stites & Harbison, PLLC as director of marketing & business development.

Schmittel has an extensive career in professional services and nonprofit business development, marketing, corporate relations and research. She joins Stites & Harbison after more than eight years with a nationally recognized law firm headquartered in the Midwest.

Schmittel earned her B.S. degree in Organizational Behavior with a Concentration in Marketing Research from Miami University’s School of Business Administration, located in Oxford, Ohio. She will be based in the Louisville, Kentucky, office of Stites & Harbison.
