Panel suggest 3 candidates for appeals court

NASHVILLE (AP) — Gov. Bill Haslam has been presented with a slate of three finalists for an upcoming vacancy on the state Court of Appeals.

The Governor's Commission on Judicial Appointments selected Memphis Chancellor Kenny W. Armstrong and attorneys Brandon O. Gibson of Jackson and Dorothy J. Pounders of Memphis from among the six applicants.

Haslam created the 17-member panel through an executive order last month to largely mirror the functions of the Judicial Nominating Commission, which lawmakers allowed to expire in June.

Appeals Judge David Farmer and state Supreme Court Justice Janice Holder have announced they will not seek new terms next year. Five candidates have applied to fill the high court opening.
