MURFREESBORO (AP) — State Sen. Jim Tracy raised nearly $182,000 in the third quarter for his Republican primary challenge of incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, who brought in $113,000 in the period.

Tracy's campaign said Tuesday he had $767,000 remaining the end of the quarter, compared with $171,000 for DesJarlais.

The DesJarlais campaign said the congressman has met his fundraising goals since officially launching his bid for a third term in early August.

The race was shaken when state Rep. Joe Carr announced he was abandoning his challenge of DesJarlais in favor of a bid to defeat U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander in next year's GOP primary.

DesJarlais won re-election last year despite disclosures that he had affairs with patients and once urged one of them to seek an abortion.
