Highway construction paused Friday-Monday for Labor Day

NASHVILLE (AP) - TDOT has told contractors and its own crews to knock off work at noon on Friday for the Labor Day weekend.

That means there will be no road construction in the state from lunchtime on Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation cited figures from AAA Auto Club South, which projects that 595,154 Tennesseans will travel by car this Labor Day holiday, an increase in travel through the state compared with last year's numbers. Nationwide, 85 percent of holiday travelers will choose to drive to their destinations.

While temporary lane closures will cease for the weekend, long-term closures with traffic barriers will remain in place, and there could be workers in some of the construction zones. Lowered posted speed limits will be enforced.
