Fort Campbell soldier charged with aiding bribery
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — An American soldier has been charged with taking part in an alleged scheme to divert fuel trucks from a military base in Afghanistan to others in exchange for money.
A bill of information unsealed Monday says Staff Sgt. Bilal Kevin Abdullah ran the alleged plot at Forward Operating Base Fenty in Jalalabad, Afghanistan from May 2010 through June 2011.
Prosecutors say Abdullah, a member of the 426th Brigade Support Battalion based at Fort Campbell, Ky., would arrange fake fuel transportation missions and create false travel documents for fuel trucks.. Once the trucks left the base, the excess fuel would be stolen.
Prosecutors say a representative of an unnamed Afghan trucking company would pay Abdullah, who would split the funds among co-conspirators.
Court records did not list an attorney for Abdullah.
