NASHVILLE (AP) — Most of Tennessee's major cities are having a wet July. The excess moisture is causing infestations of mosquitoes.

Chattanooga is nearly four inches ahead in rainfall so far in July, recording 7.78 inches so far — more than twice as much as average.

Nashville has received 6.09 inches, which is also more than twice the usual amount.

In Knoxville, 6.69 inches of rain has fallen this month, which is two and a half inches higher than usual.

The Tri-Cities are close behind, with 6.43 inches — 2.8 inches more than normal.

Only Memphis is near normal July rainfall, having received 3.39 inches.

Among diseases mosquitoes carry is West Nile Disease. The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/13fAaag ) reported there is already one confirmed case in Tennessee this summer — a 22-year-old in Putnam County.
