Cookeville plant would stay open under bid

NASHVILLE (AP) - A bankruptcy purchase agreement states the Oreck vacuum cleaner plant in Cookeville would remain open if a judge approves the sale of the brand to the owners of Hoover.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/12tRKaw) cited bankruptcy court documents in reporting the 200-plus manufacturing employees and at least 15 workers at Oreck's Nashville headquarters would keep their jobs.

However, the agreement calls for the closing or selling of the 100 Oreck factory outlet stores.

Specifications were filed Monday after TTI Floor Care North America and its Royal Appliance Manufacturing Co. subsidiary entered the winning bid of $17.25 million last week in Nashville.

The agreement is scheduled to be approved Tuesday in court.
