Southern Baptist conference center sold for $1

NASHVILLE (AP) - The Southern Baptist Convention's Lifeway Christian Resources is selling a financially troubled conference center in New Mexico to a group that already operates a Christian camp in Texas.

According to LifeWay, the trustees agreed to sell the 2,400-acre Glorieta Conference Center for $1 to a new nonprofit corporation called Glorieta 2.0.

An earlier deal to sell the camp to a Christian college in California fell through over concerns about the school's theology.

LifeWay President and CEO Thom Rainer said in a statement that the people involved in Glorieta 2.0 are "strong evangelicals."

LifeWay will continue to hold youth conferences at the facility east of Santa Fe, N.M., while Glorieta 2.0 will add day camps, family camps, high adventure wilderness programs and church and individual camping options.
