NASHVILLE (AP) - Six people have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Nashville after being accused of running a scheme to defraud Nissan North America of more than $570,000.

Officials say the six defrauded the automaker by filing false claims under the Federal Warranty Act. They, and others, are said to have approached people who owned Nissans and got their names, address and vehicle identification numbers for the purpose of filing fraudulent claims and requesting compensation.

Officials say once Nissan wrote the checks to the vehicle owners, the defendants would get a portion of the money.

One of the defendants in the case a former arbitration specialist with Nissan in Franklin who was responsible for negotiating settlements with Nissan owners.
