Marvin ‘Bud’ Wood has assumed the role of chief human resources officer for Saint Thomas Health’s nine-hospital network.

As former senior director of human resources for Community Health Systems in Franklin. Wood brings 25 years of human resources experience to his new role.

In his former role, Wood provided human resources leadership for 29 hospitals with 22,000 employees.

Wood earned a degree in political science and a master’s degree in human relations from the University of Oklahoma.

Doherty, Wiel join Nelson Mullins

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has expanded in Tennessee with the addition of two experienced attorneys, Kevin Doherty and Cynthia Wiel, in its Nashville office.

Doherty joins as a partner and practices in the area of insurance regulatory law, with particular emphasis on captives, risk retention groups, self-insurance funds and other alternative insurance vehicles. He helped rewrite the captive insurance law in Tennessee in 2011, which allows the state to more aggressively attract captives and risk retention groups. He also represents recording artists, publishers, songwriters, and music-related companies in industry agreements and transactions.

Also practicing in the captives area, Wiel joins as of counsel. She drafted the 2013 amendment to the captive insurance law and successfully lobbied it through the General Assembly. Wiel also concentrates on insurance regulatory law, business law, health care law, municipal utility law and wine & liquor regulation.

Nelson Mullins entered Tennessee with the opening of its Nashville office in April 2012.

XMi Commercial announces leadership change

XMi Commercial Real Estate has named Menge as its managing director and principal broker. He succeeds Stan Snipes, who has accepted a position with Sperry Van Ness International.

Menge, who has worked alongside Snipes for seven years, will be responsible for the strategic direction, management and oversight of all XMi Commercial Real Estate operations. As a broker, he has played an influential role in the development of the Midtown area working to secure locations for clients such as Chuy’s, AT&T and Renasant Bank.

VU Anesthesiology hires McEvoy as vice chairman

Matthew McEvoy, M.D., is joining Vanderbilt’s Department of Anesthesiology faculty later this month as vice chair for Educational Affairs and residency program director.

The Anesthesiology residency program is nationally recognized for outstanding clinical training in anesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine, as well as for cutting-edge biomedical informatics support. The program also ranks high nationally for its innovative professional development programs, such as the B.H. Robbins Scholars Program, Vanderbilt International Anesthesia and Perioperative Data Systems Research.

McEvoy completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University and his medical school and residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

ReviveHealth honored with Three SABRE Awards

Strategic communication firm ReviveHealth took home three 2013 SABRE awards, including Best Boutique Agency to Work For and Issues Management Campaign of the Year, at The Holmes Report’s annual SABRE Awards dinner in New York City last week.

The agency was a winner in three categories and a finalist in four categories, its best showing ever for the SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding and Reputation) Awards.

ReviveHealth won the Gold SABRE for Issues Management Campaign of the Year for its work with Mercy Regional Medical Center on “Preempting the Strike: Mercy Regional and Nurses Union Negotiations.”

ReviveHealth also received a Silver SABRE Award for PR Agency Marketing for its rebranding campaign and was a finalist in the health technology category for Intel-GE Care Innovations, with a submission titled “Strategically Doubling Down: Successfully Communicating” in the Corporate Reputation category.

Streitberger to lead HR for Blue Ribbon

American Blue Ribbon Holdings has hired Bill Streitberger as chief people officer, giving him the responsibility of leading and executing human resources strategy for the Nashville-based organization.

American Blue Ribbon Holdings has 32,000 employees nationwide across its brands O’Charley’s, Ninety Nine, Max & Erma’s, Village Inn, Bakers Square and Legendary Baking.

Streitberger joins American Blue Ribbon Holdings from Denver-based Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, where he has served as vice president of human resources for the past four years.

NAMI Tennessee names new executive director

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health) Tennessee has hired K. Jeff Fladen to the position of executive director. Fladen comes to NAMI from the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire, where he served as executive director.

Previously, he was executive director of Jewish Family Service in Nashville. Fladen has more than 25 years of experience in social services, including the mental health field.

He holds a master’s degree in social work and a B.A. in psychology from The Ohio State University.

Wang to lead VU cardiovascular medicine

Thomas Wang, M.D., has joined Vanderbilt as director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the physician-in-chief of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute.

Wang comes to Vanderbilt from Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he directed the heart failure disease management program and served as the associate director of the heart failure/transplantation section. Since 2011 he has directed the Program in Human Cardiovascular Physiology and Metabolism.

As director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Wang, professor of Medicine, will oversee basic and translational research, the clinical program and fellowship training. In addition, he will continue to pursue his study of pre-clinical cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolism.

His specific areas of research interest include the role of the natriuretic peptides in cardiovascular health, mechanisms of obesity-related cardiac dysfunction, the effects of vitamin D on the heart and identification of novel cardiometabolic biomarkers.

Metova promotes lead developer

Custom mobile app development firm Metova has promoted Beverly Massengill to lead developer.

Massengill joined Metova in January 2012 as a developer. She creates mobile apps that help Metova’s clients adapt and take the lead in the mobile app marketplace. She specializes in iOS development.

As a lead developer, Massengill will continue her development work for the firm, as well as work with the lead development team to assist and mentor other developers.

Massengill has a degree in computer science from Tennessee Technological University.

McNeely Pigott & Fox adds staff associate

McNeely Pigott & Fox Public Relations has added Erin McDonough as the firm’s newest staff associate.

McDonough, a Nashville native, graduated from Florida Southern College in May 2012 with a degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in religion.

While at Florida Southern, she interned with the community relations department of the Polk County School Board and worked as the marketing assistant for The Elder Law Firm of Clements and Wallace in Lakeland, Fla.

Miller Loughry Beach adds Milam as senior VP

Adam Milam has joined Miller Loughry Beach Insurance Services as a senior vice president and producer.

Milam brings eight years of experience and comes most recently from Texas Life Insurance Company, where he was regional sales director for the Southeast. Prior to Texas Life, Milam was East Tennessee regional sales manager for Allstate Workplace Division.

Pinnacle recruits veteran financial advisor Dozier

Veteran banker Tom Dozier has joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as senior VP and financial advisor for its client advisory group. He is based at the bank’s downtown headquarters.

Dozier spent 14 years at Regions Bank, most recently as a relationship manager.
