Nashville election commission audit positive

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) - An audit of the Davidson County Election Commission found that the agency has controls in place to ensure the integrity of elections.

The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/XKPOeo) the audit by Metro Nashville was initiated after complaints that electronic poll books used in the August primary defaulted to the Republican ballot.

The audit generally gave the commission good reviews, but it found problems during the November election that included shortages of printed forms, poll workers, parking spaces and phone lines. It also found that the commission had implemented just two of seven recommendations from a 2008 review by the state comptroller's office.

All three Republican commissioners and one of two Democrats were replaced by state lawmakers recently after the commission considered a plan to investigate the citizenship status of all foreign-born voters.
