Circuit court judge Wilson gets public censure

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — A circuit court judge in the third district has received a public censure and public reprimand from the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct.

According to the board, Judge John Wilson's censure was for conduct during a 2011 deposition that was "intemperate, argumentative, disruptive and not in conformity with acceptable judicial conduct."

Wilson also failed to abide by a previous agreement that required him to refrain from injudicious treatment of a certain attorney. Wilson's failure to control his animosity led to a case being transferred to another judge.

Wilson's reprimand is the result of an improper hearing and decision in a parenting case that took place outside the courtroom.

Wilson must appear before the board at its August meeting.

The third judicial district serves Greene, Hamblen, Hancock and Hawkins counties.
