Fridrich & Clark’s Smith earns top Realtor honor
The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors has named Lucy Smith of Fridrich & Clark Realty the 2012 Realtor of the Year.
The award is given annually to the GNAR Realtor member who has made the most significant contribution to clients, the real estate profession and the community. Smith was recognized for her achievements by Brian Copeland, last year’s recipient, at Saturday’s GNAR’s annual Awards of Excellence Gala.
Smith’s professional involvements range from service as a director of the National Association of Realtors and Tennessee Association of Realtors to holding every leadership office available at GNAR.
She also served this year as chair of the TAR Strategic Planning Committee and locally with several boards, including Nashville Ballet and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville.

Corizon announces new VP of operations
Corizon, a provider of correctional health care solutions, has promoted Rolly Maldonado to vice president of operations.
Maldonado began his career with Corizon in 2006 as regional manager for the Wyoming Department of Corrections contract. He was promoted to regional vice president in 2010, and in 2011 his team in Wyoming received the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Program of the Year award for its implementation of an innovative weight management program for inmates.
Maldonado is a registered nurse and has earned Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) certification by NCCHC. He earned his a degree in nursing and a master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Wyoming.
Cheekwood hires 2 new staff members
Kristin Gelder Paine has been hired as Cheekwood’s deputy director of external affairs, overseeing all earned and contributed income areas including fundraising, membership, gate admissions, education and public programs and food service/rental operations.
Lauren Smith Hong will serve as development associate, providing vital support for fundraising efforts.
Paine previously served as deputy director of development, leadership giving and deputy director of development, institutional partnerships for the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Her experience includes oversight of major gifts fundraising for the museum, relationship management, and collaborating with community leaders to create cultural partnerships between the museum and public and private sectors. Prior to her position with the Asian Art Museum, Paine served as an assistant vice president and senior press officer in the press office and Corporate Affairs Department for Sotheby’s in New York.
Hong previously served as assistant vice president for client development for Sotheby’s in both London and New York, where her primary focus was contemporary art sales. She is a Nashville native and attended both the University of Tennessee and the University of Chicago before earning her master’s degree in art business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.
Young Leaders Council announces 2013 board
Young Leaders Council, a Nashville-based nonprofit organization that has trained more than 2,000 men and women to effectively participate on the boards of nonprofit agencies for the past 28 years, has announced its board of directors for 2013.
Elected officers are:

Middleton to lead VU Health System informatics
Blackford Middleton, M.D., MPH, M.Sc., corporate director of clinical informatics research and development at Partners Healthcare in Boston, will join Vanderbilt later this month in the role of assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs and chief informatics officer for Vanderbilt University Health System. He succeeds John Doulis, M.D.
Middleton earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder, his M.D. from SUNY-Buffalo, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center.
He received his MPH from the Yale School of Public Health and his M.Sc. in health services research with emphasis in clinical informatics from Stanford University.
Middleton was appointed in 2008 to the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics. He has served as the chair of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and is currently chair-elect of the American Medical Informatics Association.
Miller named to faculty for Harvard advocacy program
Nashville attorney and trial consultant Phillip H. Miller will serve on the faculty of a national program on trial advocacy at Harvard Law School, March 16 – 20, 2013. The program, “The Ultimate Trial Advocacy College: Art of Persuasion,” is sponsored by the American Association for Justice (AAJ).
Miller, whose practice focuses exclusively on personal-injury cases, is the only Tennessee attorney to serve on the faculty. Moreover, the 2013 program at Harvard Law School marks the fifth time Miller has been invited to serve on the faculty. Miller will speak on the use of focus groups and on story-telling as a persuasive tool in explaining the trial story to a jury.
Having also has served as a course advisor or faculty member for 36 national programs presented by the National College of Advocacy of the American Association for Justice (AAJ). He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of AAJ’s National College of Advocacy, a national board member of the American Society of Trial Consultants, and a past president of the Tennessee Association for Justice.
Cabedge/Atiba team hires project manager
Atiba Management, LLC has announced the hiring of Evanne Lindley as project manager. Lindley will primarily work for Cabedge Design, LLC, a Web-centric design and alignment marketing firm and an Atiba Company. She will also use her project management and communications skills to service Cabedge sister companies Atiba Software, LLC and Atiba Network Services, LLC.
Prior to joining Cabedge and Atiba, Lindley worked for Los Angeles Magazine and BBC Worldwide. She is a graduate of Pepperdine University.
Nashville School of Law alumnus joins faculty
Nashville School of Law alumnus David J. Callahan III of Callahan Witherington, PLLC, has joined the school’s faculty and is teaching probate and estate planning to third- and fourth-year students.
As founding member and attorney at Callahan Witherington, PLLC, Callahan focuses his practice on probate, trusts and estate planning, and litigation services for clients in Middle Tennessee and the Southeast. Previously Callahan was an associate attorney with Adams and Reese LLP, where he handled probate litigation in the firm’s Nashville office and worked alongside Anne Russell, formerly a Wills instructor at NSL.
Callahan holds a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Alabama, from which he earlier graduated cum laude upon completion of his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics.
McNeely Pigott & Fox adds staff associate
McNeely Pigott & Fox Public Relations has added Danielle Hall as the firm’s newest staff associate.
Hall, a native of Manchester, graduated summa cum laude from Middle Tennessee State University in December of 2010 with a degree in mass communication. She also completed a masters of professional studies degree with a concentration in strategic leadership at MTSU in December 2012.
Her previous experience includes internships with WTVF-Channel 5 and Absolute Publicity.
Sperry Van Ness hires senior advisor
David W. Creed, Jr. has joined commercial real estate firm Sperry Van Ness as senior advisor to its newly established Nashville office.
Creed previously worked in the Nashville office of Cassidy Turley, where he specialized in tenant representation.
As senior advisor at Sperry Van Ness, Creed will concentrate on office tenant and buyer representation, leasing and investment sales.
Paramore announces new hires, promotions
Paramore, an international digital agency based in Nashville, has promoted two employees and hired two more.
Ashley Reed has been promoted to director of account services after serving as senior account manager.
Sheri McCamish has been promoted to vice president of operations. McCamish joined Paramore in August 2005 and was previously director of operations.
Jessica Johnson, a media project specialist, has joined the firm. She earned her degree in advertising from the University of Tennessee and previously worked for Scripps Networks as an interactive inventory analyst.
Kate Parrish joins the team as a senior media specialist. Parrish previously served as a senior account executive in Edelman’s New York City office and is graduate of MTSU.
