Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada, PLLC attorneys Kara Shea and William “Bill” R. O’Bryan, Jr., have been named to leadership positions with the firm.

Shea is now the labor and employment practice group leader, and O’Bryan has been named practice group leader of the financial services litigation subgroup.

Shea focuses her practice on employment training and counseling, intellectual property law, employment litigation, class and collective action, and labor and employment compliance counseling. Shea completed her undergraduate education at Boston University and earned her J.D. at Vanderbilt University.

O’Bryan is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group and the Banking, Real Estate and Financial Services Group. He focuses his practice on general litigation, banking law, business reorganization and creditors’ rights, professional liability defense, financial services, and securities litigation.

He is a graduate of Wabash College and earned his J.D. at Vanderbilt University.

Paradigm Group hires Dugan as vice president

Paradigm Group, a full-service employee benefits, retirement services and HR consulting firm, has named Bob Dugan vice president.

In his new role, Dugan will work with clients to help them provide affordable health care and best-in-class retirement programs to their employees. He will also provide comprehensive, customized solutions to help employers and employees fulfill their potential.

Dugan, who has more than 25 years of experience in employee benefits consulting, previously served as vice president at insurance firm Neace Lukens.

Steelman joins Miller & Martin

Susan B. Steelman has joined Miller & Martin’s Nashville office to lead its local healthcare practice.

Steelman comes to Miller & Martin from Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Health System in Norfolk, Va., where she served as director of loss prevention and regulatory matters for the facility, which is the only freestanding, full-service pediatric hospital in Virginia. She previously was associate general counsel for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Steelman’s addition to the firm follows a period of change for Miller & Martin following the move of a number of its attorneys this past summer to another Nashville firm. James Haley, the firm’s chairman, says Miller & Martin has always been committed to this market and cites Steelman’s hiring as evidence of that commitment to the long-term potential of the Nashville market.

Lifepoint names Holman as chief medical officer

LifePoint Hospitals has named Russell L. Holman, M.D., as its chief medical officer (CMO), replacing Lanny R. Copeland, M.D., who has served as LifePoint’s CMO since the position was created in 2007.

Copeland, who last summer announced his plans to retire, will continue to serve through a transition period.

Holman has more than 15 years of health care leadership experience in academic centers, managed care, corporate and community hospital settings. He joins LifePoint from Cogent HMG, a national hospital medicine management company, where he served in executive leadership roles for the past eight years, most recently as chief clinical officer.

Previously, Holman served as medical director of hospital services for HealthPartners Medical Group & Clinics (HPMG&C) in Bloomington, Minn., and assistant director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Minnesota.

Aterburn joins Andrews Agency

Luke Arterburn has joined The Andrews Agency as an account executive.

Arterburn recently returned to Nashville from Los Angeles, where he worked in production at the television show and website, TMZ. He worked at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center from 2009-2011 as new media manager, working with artists, casts, promoters and sponsors to develop digital content to promote upcoming shows and events.

He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Recording Industry Management and was a founding member of Middle Tennessee State University’s first official student-run improv team.

TEA hires lobbyist adds to leadership team

The Tennessee Education Association has hired Jim Wrye as its government relations manager and chief lobbyist. The 46,000-member education association also has promoted Terrance Gibson and Duran Williams to assistant executive director positions.

Wrye previously worked as communications director for the Alabama Education Association, where he was a leader in AEA’s successful fight to stop charter schools in the state. He brings more than 20 years of education experience to TEA.

Gibson, originally from Memphis, has been promoted to assistant executive director for professional growth. He previously served as TEA manager of instruction and professional development and was a teacher in Metro Nashville before joining the TEA staff.

Williams has been promoted to assistant executive director for advocacy. He previously served as TEA membership director, prior to which he was a principal and teacher in East Tennessee.

Centerstone Research announces new board

Waller’s Murdock honored by Nashville Bar

Tera Rica Murdock, a trial lawyer at Waller, Nashville’s largest and oldest law firm, was recently honored by the Nashville Bar Association Young Lawyer Division with its Leadership Award at the Association’s Annual Meeting.

Murdock received the award for her work in establishing the HELP Legal Clinic at Nashville’s Room in the Inn and for her involvement with the NBA YLD’s Annual Toiletry Drive for the Homeless.

Murdock represents a variety of clients across the financial services, manufacturing and healthcare industries. Her practice focuses on litigation and dispute resolution, labor and employment law, and e-discovery and data management.

She is a board member with the NBA YLD and serves as chair of the Homeless Committee.

Additionally, Murdock is active with the Wills for Heroes program, preparing wills for members of the armed services before deployment.

Pilkerton hires 3 for Green Hills office

Pilkerton Realtors has added Mica Fleming, Carla Beach and MacKenzie Strawn as affiliate brokers to its Green Hills office.

Fleming, a graduate of MTSU, specializes in residential real estate brokerage and is prepared to meet the needs of first time buyers as well as clients looking to re-evaluate their residential needs. He will focus on the Davidson and Maury County market areas.
