NASHVILLE (AP) - The year just ended tied for the second-warmest year in Nashville's history.

National Weather Service meteorologist Bobby Boyd said the average temperature in the capital city for 2012 was 62.3 degrees. The mark tied the 2007 average, but was 0.2 degrees cooler than the record of 62.5 degrees, which was set in 1921.

The normal yearly temperature average for Nashville is 59.4 degrees and temperature records extend to 1870.

Boyd said six of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1990.

Rainfall was 1.43 inches below normal for the year, during which 45.82 inches were recorded.
