Rooker honored as state’s top court clerk

Nashville-Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk Richard Rooker has received the Outstanding State Court Clerk Award at a recent conference of the County Officials Association.

Rooker became the circuit clerk in 1993 upon the death of his father George Rooker, who had been in that position for more than 25 years. He is now serving in his fifth term.

Rooker attended Lipscomb University and holds the designation of Public Administrator awarded by the Institute for Public Service of the University of Tennessee. He is a past-president of the Tennessee State Court Clerks Association and immediate past secretary-treasurer of the County Officials Association of Tennessee.

LBMC announces 5 new partners

Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC has named five new partners. They are:

Paul Burris, a CPA, is part of Services Division/Tax Services. Burris has experience with a variety of industries, including health care, manufacturing, distributing, retail and government services. Since joining the LBMC team in 2006, his areas of expertise have included multi-state tax planning, federal and state tax compliance, and financial statement reporting of taxes under ASC 740. Burris is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Master of Accountancy, and Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned a degree in business administration.

Jonathan Cooke, CPA, has more than 18 years of accounting and tax services experience with LBMC. Cooke has experience in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution and health care. He has specialized in federal and state taxation for large and multi-state corporations and publicly held companies. Cooke is a member of the firm’s entrepreneurial services team, which focuses on closely held family business with distinct tax and consulting needs.

He has provided consultation and analysis for both buyers and sellers of businesses. He is a graduate of MTSU and serves on their MTSU Accounting Advisory Board.

William L. Kelso, CPA, serves in the Accounting and Assurance Services division in the Knoxville. He specializes in manufacturing, transportation, distribution, utilities, non-profits and services. Kelso is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, with a degree in accounting and business administration and a Master of Accountancy.

Andrew McDonald, fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has been named partner in LBMC’s Healthcare Consulting Division. He is experienced in providing due diligence, revenue cycle management, valuation, coding/compliance, strategic planning, human resource management, financial analysis, IT (EMR) assessment/ consulting, practice development, and general practice management services to organizations preparing to meet the challenges presented by an ever-changing healthcare environment. He is a graduate of The University of Alabama with a degree in commerce and business administration and a master’s degree in Hospital and Health Administration.

Bob Miller, CPA, has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax Services Division. Prior to joining LBMC, he was a partner in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory Services Group and spent more than nine years with another Big Four firm in California. Bob has more than 16 years of public accounting experience, 14 dedicated primarily to providing both buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence and tax structuring advice to both private equity and strategic buyer clients.

Additionally, Kelsey Rogers has joined LBMC as a human resources representative in the Share Services/Human Resources Department. She will be assisting with Continuing Professional Education training, college recruitment and various employee development tasks for the Human Resources Department.

Rogers previously worked for Cowan Benefit Services as an employee benefit clerk.

Nashville Bank & Trust hires vice president

Georgia Parks has joined Nashville Bank & Trust as vice president of administration.

Parks brings 35 years of banking experience to NBT, 25 of which were in a managerial capacity. In her most recent position prior to NBT, she served as vice president of loan operations at American Security Bank & Trust in Hendersonville.

Powell Creative adds 2 team members

Powell Creative LLC, a branding, design and interactive firm located on Music Row in Nashville, has added two staff members.

Sheri Young has been named account services director for the firm. She was formerly director of marketing for Woodridge Development, Inc. Prior to that she served as director of sales & marketing for Healthsource Rx, a

subsidiary of Cigna/Healthsource, and earlier as public relations manager for Phideas Communications, Inc. Young also has served as an independent marketing strategy consultant to small-medium sized businesses across multiple industries for the last decade.

Tiernee Harris joins as social media coordinator. She was previously a communications intern for the Nashville Health Care Council, a publicity intern for Warner Music Nashville and an artist management intern for O-Seven Artist Management. Harris’ areas of expertise lie in social media strategy and web-based campaigns.

2 join h3GM as associates

Harwell Howard Hyne Gabbert & Manner, P.C., has hired Alex Payne and Davis Mello as associates in the firm’s litigation and corporate practice groups.

Payne is assisting clients with corporate disputes, employment law matters and bankruptcy cases. He earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was Order of the Coif, on the Dean’s list and received a scholastic excellence award for constitutional protection of property rights, mental health law, and foreign affairs.

Mello is working with mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance issues, securities regulatory work, and intellectual property matters, and enjoys helping clients navigate complex business transactions and regulatory schemes. He also earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt, where he was a John W. Wade Scholar and articles selection editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.
