Nashville’s Haven Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., a provider of behavioral health care for adults, senior citizens and active-duty military personnel, has hired Scott W. Kardenetz as executive vice president and chief operations officer.

In this capacity, Kardenetz’s primary responsibilities include overseeing Haven Behavioral’s current operations and starting up new facilities based on the company’s hospital-in-hospital model.

Most recently, Kardenetz served as divisional vice president in the Nashville regional office of Universal Health Services. In this position, he supervised 14 health care facilities, including psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, outpatient services, foster care delivery and physician employees, with aggregate revenues of approximately $300 million.

Prior to that position, Kardenetz was division president at Nashville-based Psychiatric Solutions, Inc, where he held similar responsibilities.

Earlier, Kardenetz was vice president of operations at Ardent Health Services.

Tennessee Repertory announces officers, board

Martha Trammell, retired director and assistant general counsel at Nissan North America, Inc., will lead Tennessee Repertory Theatre’s board of directors during the organization’s 28th season, 2012-2013.

Trammell joined Tennessee Rep’s board in 2008 and has served as vice president for fundraising and as secretary charged with chairing the board development and leadership task force.

Biesman honored by national medical society

Brian S. Biesman, MD, FACS, director of the Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial Surgery, will receive the 2012 Henry Baylis Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery on Nov. 8 during the Society’s 43rd Annual Fall Scientific Symposium in Chicago. The Award recognizes a member of the Society who has contributed to the expansion of knowledge and practice in the discipline of aesthetic facial surgery. The recipient is selected by the surgeons who are members of ASOPRS.

This is the third national award that Dr. Biesman has received since 2010. In April 2012, he received the Ellet H. Drake Award from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS), honoring him for his significant contributions in the use of lasers for patient care, in laser research and in teaching other physicians best practices in laser medicine. In 2010, Dr. Biesman received the ASLMS Leon Goldman Memorial Award, named in honor of the “father of laser medicine,” and presented to someone who has made a significant contribution to the field of laser science, technology and medicine. Dr. Biesman is one of only seven physicians in the world to have received these two awards from ASLMS.

Dr. Biesman specializes in laser and facial surgery with a focus on eyelid plastic and reconstructive surgery and technology-based rejuvenation procedures. He is a noted local, national and international speaker whose research is directed toward broadening the use of pharmaceutical agents, lasers and related technology-based devices in minimally invasive rejuvenation. His breakthrough studies have garnered him extensive exposure in the national and local media. An accomplished author of many scientific papers, Dr. Biesman has written a textbook on the use of lasers in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Change Healthcare taps Ghertner as its new CEO

Brentwood’s Change Healthcare has named Douglas Ghertner its chief executive officer. Ghertner has served as the company’s president since July 2011.

Howard McLure, the company’s current chairman and chief executive officer, will assume the role of executive chairman of the board.

Prior to joining Change Healthcare, Ghertner spent eight years in leadership positions with CVS Caremark, including his role as senior vice president of client solutions. Ghertner holds a bachelor’s degree with special attainments in commerce from Washington and Lee University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia.

Cesario is Corizon’s new VP of operations

Corizon, a provider of correctional healthcare solutions, has promoted Carla Cesario to senior vice president of operations, community corrections. Cesario is now responsible for leading the operations of Corizon’s West, Midwest and Southeast jail divisions.

Cesario joined Corizon in 1994 as the statewide mental health director for the company’s contract with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. Since that time, she has held positions as health service administrator, regional vice president, executive director of customer relations, and most recently served as the vice president of operations for the Southeast jail division.

Baptist CMO named to UCHI Board

Geoffrey H. Smallwood, MD, chief medical officer of Baptist Hospital, part of the Saint Thomas Health system, has been appointed by Capella Healthcare and Saint Thomas Health to the Capella-Upper Cumberland Healthcare Initiatives board.

The UCHI board is the governing body for the joint venture between Capella Healthcare and UCHI, an organization of physicians, including DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville, Highlands Medical Center in Sparta, and Stones River Hospital in Woodbury. These hospitals, along with River Park Hospital in McMinnville, are part of the Capella-Saint Thomas Health Services partnership.

The Capella-UCHI Board provides guidance for the hospital CEOs who work in conjunction with their respective Boards of Trustees and medical staff leadership. Capella representatives on the board are Erik Swensson, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Capella; Mark Medley, President of Hospital Operations for Capella; Michael Wiechart, SVP and Chief Operating Officer for Capella; Bill Little, CEO of Highlands Medical Center and Dr. Smallwood. Higgins Firm adds to employment law group

The Higgins Firm is pleased to announce that Anne Hunter Williams has joined the firm and will practice in the Employment Law Practice Group.

In this role, Williams will be responsible for many of the firm’s efforts on behalf of its clients to enforce the legal rights of employees in the workplace. This work includes representing employees in wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination and whistleblower cases as well as negotiating severance packages and review of non-competition covenants for terminated employees.

Williams began her legal career with a boutique labor and employment law firm in Chicago. She then served as an assistant attorney general in Illinois, where she practiced employment discrimination defense in the Government Representation Bureau. Williams moved to Tennessee in 2000, and she became group publisher with M. Lee Smith Publishing, LLC, where she focused on publishing labor and employment manuals and reports.

Kennamer joins Pinnacle Financial

Kelvin Kennamer has joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as a senior vice president and financial advisor for Pinnacle’s South Church office in Murfreesboro.

Kennamer brings 23 years of financial services experience and comes most recently from Regions Bank, where he served as a wealth advisor. Prior to Regions, Kennamer was a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley.

Conner re-appointed to Arts Commission

Stephanie Barger Conner of Nashville has been re-appointed to the Tennessee Arts Commission for a five-year term by Gov. Bill Haslam.

Conner was originally appointed to the Tennessee Arts Commission in 2002. She served as chair of the Commission in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007.

Prior to her work with the Commission, she served in several capacities within federal and state government. Conner currently serves on the board of Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, and on the executive committee and board of directors of South Arts. She is on the board of directors of Tennesseans for the Arts, and previously served as board president and acting executive director for TFTA.

Anderson takes helm at Ebbtide boats

White Bluff-based Ebbtide Corporation, manufacturer of fiberglass sports and recreational boats, has promoted Richard Anderson to president of North American operations.

Anderson previously held the position of vice president at Ebbtide Corporation. He has worked in the recreational and sport boating business as a vice president for Wellcraft and general manager for AquaSport.

Senior strategist joins McNeely Pigott & Fox

Hollie Geren Rapello has joined MP&F as a senior communications strategist.

Rapello previously held senior leadership positions at national agencies, including senior vice president and director of communications at Lowe & Partners Worldwide and senior vice president and director of communications at Young & Rubicam North America.
