NASHVILLE (AP) — A Kiwanis Club member from Tennessee has been selected to be honored at the White House as a "Champion of Change."

Fourteen members of the Kiwanis International group, which organizes service projects, will be honored at the nation's capital on Friday, including John Mayfield, of the Kiwanis Club of Cheatham County.

According to a news release from the White House, Mayfield's work with the Kiwanis Club focuses on children's health and development. He has been a key supporter of the Eliminate Project, a Kiwanis campaign to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus in more than 30 countries.

In November 2011, Mayfield traveled to Sierra Leone with the Kiwanis to see firsthand the efforts to eliminate tetanus.
