Here’s your chance to drive history at Rally for the Lane
By Stephen Hines
Want to drive a car from the Lane Motor Museum collection?
During the third annual Rally for the Lane, Sept. 29 and Oct. 13, rallyers can, for $450 to $850, drive the Lane auto of their choice. Up to four people are allowed per car, so long as there are only two designated drivers.
The Rally usually begins with a breakfast, followed by brief operating instructions on the various cars. The rally then heads off toward Columbia, where participants will gather at the historic Mr. Pleasant Grille.
Lane marketing director Vicki Garrison says the number of cars per event is limited to 25 to keep things manageable, though later rallies may increase in size.
Last year the museum, which is run by as a nonprofit, raised $25,000 from the rally. A similar goal has been set for this year.
Since this is not a timed event, participants will be provided with a set of questions to answer, and there will be awards afterward at a post-rally reception that will include a tour of the fabulous basement collection.
