NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Bar Association is planning public hearings across the state this fall to look for ways to improve the state's conservatorship law.

Conservatorship is meant to help vulnerable adults who are unable to care for themselves properly by allowing another person to manage their affairs. But recent reports have shown that the system does not always work as planned, with conservators sometimes taking advantage of the people they are meant to protect.

The hearings will provide an opportunity to discuss how the system can be improved.

The first hearing takes place in Nashville this Thursday with future hearings planned for Memphis, Chattanooga, and a to-be-determined location in East Tennessee.
