Woman, 83, dies in fall down escalator
NASHVILLE (AP) - Metro Nashville Police have released the identity of an elderly woman who died after falling down a supermarket escalator.
Authorities said 83-year-old Martha Short inadvertently pushed her grocery cart onto the wrong escalator at a Harris Teeter market on the city's west side Wednesday afternoon. The store has an escalator designed for carts only that runs to a parking garage.
Short pushed her cart onto the passenger escalator and fell when the cart rolled forward, falling to the bottom of the moving stairs. She was taken to nearby St. Thomas Hospital, where she died.
