Wishy-washy stock market ends slightly higher

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NEW YORK (AP) — After trading slightly lower most of the day, major stock indexes edged up in late trading to close slightly higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average is closing up 43 points to 13,208. The Standard & Poor's 500 is up three to 1,406. The Nasdaq composite is up two to 3,021.

There was little in the way of major economic news to move the market decisively either way, and trading volume was low at about 2.7 billion.

On the New York Stock Exchange, shares were split almost evenly between those that advanced and those that fell. For every eight shares that rose, about seven fell.

China reported slowing growth for its exports, thanks to lower demand from its largest trading partner, the European Union.
