Ex-rescue squad chief, treasurer arrested
SMYRNA (AP) — Smyrna police have arrested the former chief and former treasurer of the Smyrna Rescue Squad for theft of funds from the squad's bank accounts.
According to a police news release on Wednesday, police were alerted to possible embezzlement at the rescue squad in May and an investigation started looking at former squad chief David Edward Manning and his wife, Danielle Manning, the squad's treasurer.
Police said the couple admitted to taking funds from the account and using the funds for personal use. David Manning is accused of making $2,300 worth of personal purchases with the department credit card, and Danielle Manning removed $1,450 from the department account for personal purchases.
Both were arrested and charged with theft. A court date has been set for Sept. 24.
