Four members of Avenue board re-elected

Four directors of the board have been re-elected to serve new three-year terms at Avenue Bank: David Anderson, Agenia Clark, Pat Emery and Karen Saul.

Anderson is senior vice president - finance and treasurer of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. He has served on the Avenue Bank Board since the bank’s founding in 2007.

Clark is the president and CEO of Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee. She also has served on the Avenue Bank Board of Directors since the bank’s founding in 2007.

Emery is president of Spectrum Properties/Emery, Inc., a regional commercial real estate firm. Emery joined the Avenue Board in June 2009.

Saul is the area president of Gallagher Benefit Services, a subsidiary of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., the third largest insurance brokerage and risk management services firm in the U.S. Saul also joined the Avenue Board in June 2009.

Richter appointed to ABA Tax Section post

Bass, Berry & Sims PLC attorney Fritz Richter has been appointed to serve as co-vice chair of the Fiduciary Responsibility / Plan Investments Subcommittee of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Tax Section. The subcommittee is responsible for presenting ABA educational programs and preparing comments to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and other government agencies on ERISA fiduciary and plan investment issues that impact 401(k) and other types of pension benefit plans.

Mr. Richter, a Member of Bass, Berry & Sims, has been practicing exclusively in the areas of employee benefits, ERISA and executive compensation for more than 25 years. He advises clients on the design, implementation and administration of all types of employee benefit plans and compensation arrangements.

Publication honors LifePoint’s Gilbert

Paul D. Gilbert, executive vice president and chief legal officer of LifePoint Hospitals, has been named one of “10 General Counsels to Watch” for 2012 by Corporate Board Member, a quarterly publication covering governance and boardroom issues for corporate directors and C-suite officers of publicly traded corporations, large private companies and Global 1000 firms.

Gilbert joined LifePoint Hospitals in 2006 as senior vice president and general counsel, and was promoted to his current position in February 2009. Gilbert also previously served as the company’s chief development officer from February 2009 until October 2011, during which time the company established Duke LifePoint Healthcare, an innovative joint venture of Duke University Health System, Inc. and LifePoint, to build a dynamic network of hospitals and healthcare providers.

He graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Law (Order of the Coif) in 1991 and, in 1988, from Wake Forest University (magna cum laude with Honors in Politics).

Nashville engineer to lead state organization

Steven Field, PE, principal of Nashville’s Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., has been elected 2012-13 president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC of Tennessee), an organization whose membership includes more than 100 engineering firms located across the state. Field has been associated with Stantec Consulting Services for six years and has more than 19 years of engineering experience.

In addition, three other Nashvillians will serve as 2012–13 officers:

Chuck Saunders, PE, manager of the Nashville office of Fisher & Arnold, Inc., was elected first vice president.

John Wimberly, PE, president of I.C. Thomasson Associates, Inc., was elected second vice president.

Steve Lane, PE, DEE, executive vice president at Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., continues to serve a three-year term as national director.

Nashville Area Chamber announces new hire

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Zandra Benefield as a research coordinator within the research and information department.

In her new position, Benefield will serve the Chamber’s mission, members, staff and community stakeholders throughout the Nashville region by creating high-quality solutions to research project needs, inquiries and opportunities.

Benefield joins the team at the Chamber after graduating from Trevecca Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in financial mathematics. She brings to the position more than four years of experience with applied research and research projects as well as professional experience at companies including Dollar General and Pioneer College Catering.

Four promotions at Lattimore Black

Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC has promoted four in its Nashville office:

April L. Mitchell, CPA, has been promoted to a manager in tax services. She is a part of the Wealth Management Services team at LBMC, where she specializes in large and complex income tax returns for individuals, trusts, and estates. She also has substantial experience with tax planning, individual tax consulting and closely held businesses.

Elizabeth H. Paily has been promoted to a manager in tax services. She previously was a supervising senior in the department. Elizabeth has been with LBMC’s Wealth Management Services team since 2004. While her primary focus is on accounting and income taxes for individuals, trusts and estates, she has worked with various industries providing tax services.

Tyler Gobble has been promoted to a senior in tax. Gobble was previously a staff member in the department.

James Bradshaw has been promoted to a senior in audit. He was previously a staff member in the department.
