McCloud chosen as artist in residence
The Thomas P. Seigenthaler Fund for Creativity and Room In The Inn have selected Bryce McCloud, Nashville artist and owner of Isle of Printing, as the Fund’s 2012 Artist in Residence. McCloud was chosen from among 70 applicants to direct the Fund’s second annual program, which provides opportunities for homeless guests at Room In The Inn’s campus to create.
McCloud, whose printmaking studio is adjacent to Room In The Inn’s downtown campus, said he considers the guests who attend his classes to be his neighbors as well as his students, and is enjoying getting to know them as they explore portraiture together.
The Fund is named in memory of Nashville business and community leader Tom Seigenthaler, a prolific artist who believed that, “people gain self-esteem through the creative process.” He died in 2004, and his family founded the Fund in 2009 to promote creative expression and creative solutions that better the community.
The Fund’s inaugural 2011 Artist-in-Residence program at Room In the Inn, where Tom had taught art classes, was lead by Delia Seigenthaler and Emily Holt, local artists and faculty members of University School of Nashville. The 2011 program generated more than 80 pieces of original work. The exhibition and opening reception, at which several hundred guests bid on the artists’ works, raised more than $10,000 for the TPS Fund and motivated more than 70 applicants nationwide to apply for the 2012 Artist-in-Residence position.
