Michelle Obama to address AME Church conference
NASHVILLE (AP) — First Lady Michelle Obama will give the keynote address to the nation's oldest black religious denomination at the general conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Nashville on June 28.
The African Methodist Episcopal Church claims a membership of more than 3 million people worldwide and 7,500 churches. The church was founded in 1787 in Philadelphia, Pa., and was declared an official religious denomination in 1816.
Every four years church leaders gather for a general conference, which is being held this year at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. President Barack Obama addressed the AME conference in 2008 as a U.S. senator.
