Corizon, a Brentwood-based provider of correctional healthcare solutions, has promoted Joe Pastor, M.D., to chief mental health officer.

In his new role, Pastor will supervise the Corizon Behavioral Healthcare team and provide consultation for patient care and mental health staff in jails and prisons. He also will consult with Corizon psychiatrists nationwide and serve on Corizon’s Specialty Panel of Physicians.

Pastor has worked in correctional health care since 1997, serving various facilities in both Ohio and Colorado. He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry at both Brown University and Harvard University. He served as President of the Colorado Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Society (CCAPS) in 2007 and is a Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP). He holds active licenses to practice medicine in Arizona, Tennessee, Virginia, Michigan, Colorado, Massachusetts and Ohio.

Gabure honored with Local Hero Award

Osman Gabure, a family nurse practitioner (FNP) at United Neighborhood Health Services, received the Local Hero Award from the Clinicians’ Network of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council at the organization’s annual conference and policy symposium in Kansas City.

He was honored for providing compassionate, dedicated health care services to homeless patients and for advocating on their behalf. He is one of only four people in the United States to be honored with a 2012 Local Hero Award.

Gabure arrived in the United States at age 13 with his family, refugees from war-torn Somalia. In 1992, his parents went to Kenya, wanting to be closer to their native country. In 2008, he graduated with a B.S. in nursing from Tennessee State University. In 2010, he received a master’s degree from TSU and became a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Later this year, Gabure anticipates graduating with a doctor of nursing practice degree from the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Lifepoint hospitals announces promotions

LifePoint Hospitals, a hospital company that operates 55 hospital campuses in 18 states, recently announced the following promotions at its Hospital Support Center in Brentwood:

Mike Caplenor has been promoted from director to senior director of IT&S Service Management and Security. He joined LifePoint Hospitals in 2005 and has more than 16 years of healthcare IT experience. Previously, he served Deloitte as manager, enterprise risk assurance, and HCA as senior manager, IT Audit.

Sam Hutcheson has been promoted from director to senior director of strategic growth and development. A member of the LifePoint team since 2008, he supports the company in the strategic negotiation and acquisition of hospitals, surgery centers and diagnostic facilities. Previously, he consulted with AIM Healthcare.

Kim Reynolds has been promoted from senior director to vice president of Marketing. Prior to joining LifePoint in 2010, she was vice president, marketing, at Ingram Book Group and director or marketing and communications at Saint Thomas Health Services. Reynolds currently oversees LifePoint’s in-house marketing agency, which provides support to the company’s 55 hospitals nationwide.

Melissa Waddey has been promoted from senior director to vice president of LifePoint’s Strategic Resource Group. She offers expertise in strategic planning, hospital operations and product/service line development. Prior to joining LifePoint in 2010, Waddey served as chief operating officer of Summit Medical Center and the Madison Campus of HCA’s Skyline Medical Center.

Crosslin hires VP of business development

Crosslin Technologies, LLC, a regional information technology firm and sister company of Crosslin & Associates, P.C., has hired James L. Farley as vice president of business development. Farley joins Crosslin Technologies with more than 14 years of sales experience.

Prior to joining CT, Farley was the business development manager for an IT support organization that serviced small to medium sized companies, healthcare organizations, and financial institutions in the southeast. In this role he was responsible for developing new account acquisitions, creating policies and procedures for new account managers, and increasing firm revenue.

Farley is a member of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

Crosslin also has added Otis H. Bishop III, a security analyst who has amassed more than eight years of information technology and security experience. Bishop was one of only two part-time contracted technicians selected to represent Dell in the Florida and Middle Tennessee regions. In this capacity, he performed data migration management, and implementation of IP networks and security solutions for existing clients.

Burns recognized for pro bono work

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, has named John B. Burns its Nashville Pro Bono Attorney of the Year.

Over the last several years, Mr. Burns, a shareholder in the firm’s Nashville office, has provided tax and corporate assistance to dozens of non-profit organizations ranging from the Memphis in May International Festival to the Fannie Battle Day Home for Children and the Historic Elmwood Cemetery. He has also helped numerous individuals with estate and guardianship matters and handled the legal work to establish BakerCares, Inc., a non-profit that will provide temporary financial assistance to Baker Donelson employees in times of emergency need.

Pinnacle Financial adds senior VP, advisor

Richard “Skeet” Fleming Jr. has joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as a senior vice president and financial advisor in the client advisory group.

Fleming brings 10 years of financial services experience and comes most recently from Nashville Bank and Trust Company, where he served as assistant vice president in its private banking group. Other roles include serving as a residential mortgage loan officer for Regions Bank (Union Planters Bank) and as a mortgage loan officer for Optimum Mortgage Group.

Fleming holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi. He is based at Pinnacle’s downtown Nashville office at Pinnacle at Symphony Place.

Cumbee to teach at Williamson Christian

Jim Cumbee, an attorney, entrepreneur and former Disney VP, has been named adjunct professor at Williamson Christian College’s School of Business Leadership. He will teach a new business ethics course.

Cumbee’s career has spanned the worlds of law, politics, Harvard Business School, commercial real estate, entertainment, Christian music and mergers and acquisitions.

After graduating from Harvard in 1984, Cumbee was hired by Trammel Crow as marketing principal in company’s Orlando office, where he spent the next six years developing and leasing office buildings.

In 1990, the Walt Disney Company approached him to become part of its commercial development team. Cumbee was soon promoted to vice president of the Disney Institute and later was vice president of Disney Vacation Development.

In 2009, Cumbee transitioned into being the owner and managing director of the Tennessee Valley Group in Franklin. The firm matches business owners who want to sell their companies with investors looking to buy companies.

Blalock is CPA’s new student services director

Christ Presbyterian Academy has promoted team member Megan Blalock from administrative assistant to Director of Student Services for CPA Middle School.

Blalock, who has been with CPA for two years, also serves as head coach of girls’ middle-school soccer and as an assistant coach for the academy’s high-school girls’ soccer program.

A Brentwood Academy graduate and soccer standout who attended Birmingham-Southern College and later earned a degree in English from David Lipscomb University, Blalock will work closely with CPA’s students in grades 6-8.
