Judge dismisses 'Soul Men' movie suit
NASHVILLE (AP) — A federal judge in Nashville has dismissed a case against two major Hollywood film studios brought by one half of the legendary soul music duo Sam and Dave.
Sam Moore filed a lawsuit against the Weinstein Company and MGM studios claiming the 2008 film "Soul Men," starring the late actor Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson, bore too much of a resemblance to Sam and Dave.
Moore and Dave Prater Jr., who died in 1988, performed together for two decades. Their hits include "Soul Man," ''Hold On, I'm Comin'" and "When Something is Wrong with My Baby."
In dismissing the case, U.S. District Court Judge Aleta Trauger said the movie does not contain any likeness or image of Sam and Dave.
Moore's attorneys have vowed to appeal the ruling.
