State Legislature
Disclosure requirement finds resistance in House
NASHVILLE (AP) — A bill seeking to require local and regional planning commissioners to file interest disclosures with the Tennessee Ethics Commission is being met with resistance in its last legislative hurdle before a full House vote.
The bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Jim Gotto would subject the state's estimated 3,000 planning commissioners to the same disclosure requirements as elected officials.
Republican House Finance Chairman Charles Sargent of Franklin on Thursday tried to move the bill back to a subcommittee instead of sending it to a floor vote over questions of cost.
But that move was defeated by a bipartisan group of members on the House Finance Committee.
Gotto later agreed to put off a committee vote until next week. The Senate version passed unanimously last month.
