Battle of Franklin to be commemorated Wednesday
FRANKLIN (AP) - Civil War re-enactors will commemorate the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin with a candle-lighting ceremony tonight.
Scores of spectators are expected as volunteers light hundreds of luminarias to mark the more than 8,000 estimated casualties from the clash. Union and Confederate forces fought in Franklin, just south of Nashville, not far from the current Rest Haven Cemetery.
The one-night, bloody battle is considered a Union victory.
