Statewide
TennCare to present budget proposal to Haslam
NASHVILLE (AP) — TennCare is scheduled to make the final budget presentation Monday in Gov. Bill Haslam's series of hearings on state spending.
The state's expanded Medicaid program serves about 1.2 million people in Tennessee, and has been the subject of cuts in recent years.
But the failure of a special congressional panel to agree on federal spending cuts may give TennCare a reprieve this year. The lack of an agreement by the supercommittee means automatic spending reductions are set to begin in January 2013, but they don't include Medicaid cuts.
Haslam's budget hearings began on Nov. 2 in Memphis, the first time they have been held outside the Capitol. The governor also held budget hearings in Knoxville last week.
